Caserta Vecchia was my first little adventure, soon after my feet touched Italian soil. It was instant inspiration. Caserta Vecchia is the old village of Caserta that climbs up the steep steps of Mount Virgo. You are embraced with medieval architecture as you walk through the fascinating streets with houses made of tufa rock, portals and courtyards, loggias, and mullioned windows. It stands high above the magnificence of the Royal Palace, La Reggia di Caserta, The village is grouped around the twelfth-century cathedral of San Michele. As you pass the Cathedral on your right and head down the little street, you will walk around the corner and walk right into my painting.
